Building in the Mersey Forest: a carbon offset tool for developers

How many trees should you plant to compensate for the global warming effect caused by your building and everything you plan to do in it?

Just follow this simple 5 step interactive questionnaire, and we'll tell you!

Step 1: Space and water heating

Please choose your source of heating energy for space and water:

How much carbon dioxide will your space and water heating produce each year?

EITHER fill in the next field from your SAP worksheet (see box below) OR fill in the field at the bottom of this page.

Enter your yearly emission of kilograms of carbon dioxide figure from the SAP worksheet:

SAP and this question

To get this figure:
For individual and community heating without CHP this figure is found in BOX 105 of the SAP WORKSHEET (Version 9.70).

For community heating schemes with CHP or heat recovered from power stations this figure is found in BOX 114 of the SAP WORKSHEET (Version 9.70). Both are on page 25 of the SAP Manual.

As a developer it's likely you are completing a Standard Assessment Procedure (SAP) worksheet, in order to comply with current regulations. The question on the left assumes you've done this.

Information about SAP and the questionnaire is downloadable from http://projects.bre.co.uk/sap2001/.

If you want a quick answer without filling in the SAP form, answer the following question instead:

Enter the annual number of units expected to be used:
(therms for gas, kWh for electricity, litres for oil, tonnes for biomass)
